The Avantor ACE HILIC-N HPLC-/UHPLC column 30x2.1mm, 1.7µm, employs a proprietary polyhydroxy surface for hydrophilic interaction chromatography. The Avantor ACE HILIC-N is designed for rather neutral HILIC interactions with low specific ion-exchange activity. Thus the phase is suitable for polar compounds where a mild and reproducible HILIC retention without strong ionic contributions is desired. Typical applications are caffeine, nucleobases, nucleosides, melamine, related polar contaminants and LC-MS methods with a high acetonitrile content.
Avantor ACE HILIC uses ultra-inert silica particles with various proprietary polar surface chemistries. The three HILIC phases—HILIC-A, HILIC-B, and HILIC-N—were developed for systematic selectivity screening, as they represent different ionic and neutral interactions. In contrast to reverse-phase chromatography, retention in HILIC is typically determined by a water-rich layer on the polar stationary phase and mobile phases with a high organic content. Appropriate guard cartridges protect the sensitive HILIC method from matrix components and help ensure stable retention times.
