Product Description
The Shodex IEC CM-LG Guard Column 50x8.0mm, 20µm, contains carboxymethyl groups as a weak cation exchanger on hydrophilic polyhydroxymethacrylate. It protects preparative CM columns from particles and strongly adsorbing sample components without altering the chromatographic selectivity of the main column. Shodex IEC CM-LG is used as a prepacked Guard Column directly in front of the preparative column.

Additional Notes
The IEX Series combines polyhydroxymethacrylate, polyvinyl alcohol, and styrene-divinylbenzene frameworks. Quaternary ammonium and sulfopropyl groups act as strong ion exchangers, while DEAE and carboxymethyl groups act as weak ion exchangers. Large-pore packing improves access for proteins and nucleic acids, while nonporous particles offer particularly short transport paths. The choice of phase depends on net charge, isoelectric point, molecular size, and the desired elution strategy.
