The DCpak PMPC HPLC/SFC column 50x3.0mm, 3µm, based on poly(2-methacryloyloxyethyl phosphorylcholine) as the polymeric selector. The precise modification of the DCpak PMPC results in zwitterionic polymeric selectivity. DCpak PMPC is used in SFC and HILIC-HPLC and is particularly suitable for peptides, polar impurities, zwitterionic molecules and methods involving complex impurity profiles. DCpak PMPC offers amphiphilic and zwitterionic interactions. Owing to its polymeric structure, DCpak PMPC offers orthogonal selectivity; however, it should not be regarded as a substitute for chiral Chiralpak or Chiralcel enantiomer separations.
DCpak differs fundamentally from Chiralcel, Chiralpak, or CROWNPAK, as its phases are achiral and polymer-based. The focus is on orthogonal separation mechanisms for structurally similar, polar, or difficult-to-separate achiral mixtures. The backbone is not derived from amylose or cellulose. Instead, polymeric selectors with defined chemical functionality are used, such as ester-, pyridine-, tetrazole-, or phosphorylcholine-based structures. The advantage of polymeric DCpak phases lies in their robustness and alternative selectivity compared to classical silica, C18, or HILIC phases. The disadvantage is that enantiomer separation, as seen with chiral polysaccharide phases, is not to be expected; DCpak should be used specifically for achiral selectivity challenges.
