Product Description

The DCpak PTZ HPLC/SFC column 250x20mm, 5µm, based on poly[N-(1H-tetrazol-5-yl)methacrylamide] as the polymeric selector. The specific modification of the DCpak PTZ corresponds to a tetrazole-based HILIC-like selectivity. DCpak PTZ is used in HILIC-HPLC, normal-phase HPLC and SFC, and is particularly suitable for hydrophilic molecules, polar impurities, structurally similar active ingredients and formulation components. DCpak PTZ is designed to provide high retention of polar substances and good shape selectivity. Thanks to its polymeric structure, DCpak PTZ offers orthogonal selectivity; however, it should not be regarded as a substitute for Chiralpak or Chiralcel enantiomer separations.

Features and Benefits

  • Polymeric achiral selectors for complementary HPLC and SFC selectivity
  • No traditional amylose or cellulose phases; instead, robust polymer surfaces
  • Suitable for structural isomers, positional isomers, hydrophilic substances, and peptides
  • PBT, P4VP, PTZ, and PMPC cover different interaction profiles
  • Use in normal-phase, reverse-phase, HILIC, and SFC depending on the phase and method
  • Useful for impurity profiling, purity analysis, and method orthogonality

Additional Notes

DCpak differs fundamentally from Chiralcel, Chiralpak, or CROWNPAK, as its phases are achiral and polymer-based. The focus is on orthogonal separation mechanisms for structurally similar, polar, or difficult-to-separate achiral mixtures. The backbone is not derived from amylose or cellulose. Instead, polymeric selectors with defined chemical functionality are used, such as ester-, pyridine-, tetrazole-, or phosphorylcholine-based structures. The advantage of polymeric DCpak phases lies in their robustness and alternative selectivity compared to classical silica, C18, or HILIC phases. The disadvantage is that enantiomer separation, as seen with chiral polysaccharide phases, is not to be expected; DCpak should be used specifically for achiral selectivity challenges.
