Product Description

The DCpak P4VP HPLC/SFC column 150x2.1mm, 3µm, based on poly(4-vinylpyridine) as the polymeric selector. The specific modification of the DCpak P4VP corresponds to pyridine-based polymeric selectivity. DCpak P4VP is used in HPLC and SFC and is particularly suitable for basic and acidic compounds, pharmaceutical impurities, structurally similar substances and screening methods that do not require the addition of additives. DCpak P4VP utilises a nitrogen-containing polymer surface that offers different interactions to those of silica, C18 or polysaccharide phases. Due to its polymeric structure, DCpak P4VP offers orthogonal selectivity; however, it should not be regarded as a substitute for Chiralpak or Chiralcel enantiomer separations.

Additional Notes

DCpak differs fundamentally from Chiralcel, Chiralpak, or CROWNPAK, as its phases are achiral and polymer-based. The focus is on orthogonal separation mechanisms for structurally similar, polar, or difficult-to-separate achiral mixtures. The backbone is not derived from amylose or cellulose. Instead, polymeric selectors with defined chemical functionality are used, such as ester-, pyridine-, tetrazole-, or phosphorylcholine-based structures. The advantage of polymeric DCpak phases lies in their robustness and alternative selectivity compared to classical silica, C18, or HILIC phases. The disadvantage is that enantiomer separation, as seen with chiral polysaccharide phases, is not to be expected; DCpak should be used specifically for achiral selectivity challenges.
