The Waters Spherisorb Silica HPLC column 125x4.0mm, 10µm, is based on unmodified spherical silica and features a polar silanol surface without bonded organic phase. The principal application of the Waters Spherisorb Silica lies in normal phase chromatography. The silica surface provides classical adsorption chromatography for polar functional groups. In practice, the Waters Spherisorb Silica is suitable, for example, for normal phase methods, lipids, isomers, natural products and separations in non-polar mobile phases.
The Spherisorb series is based on mechanically robust silica with a pore size of 80 Å and is available in several particle sizes. ODS1 has a lower ligand density and lower carbon loading, while ODS2 offers a more densely packed, end-capped C18 surface. The series is complemented by short alkyl chains, cyano, phenyl, amino, and silica phases, as well as strong anion- and cation-exchange phases. This allows for the coverage of a wide range of classical HPLC methods using a silica base that is consistent across the product family.
