The Waters Spherisorb ODS1 HPLC column 150x4.6mm, 3µm, is based on an octadecylsilyl phase (other designations: ODS, RP-18, C18) on spherical silica and is designed for reversed-phase chromatography. Spherisorb ODS1 is a classical, less strongly end-capped C18 selectivity and remains relevant for many older validated methods. In practice, the Waters Spherisorb ODS1 is suitable, for example, for Ph. Eur. and USP-like methods, pharmaceutical analysis, environmental analysis and methods that require a historical ODS1 selectivity.
The Spherisorb series is based on mechanically robust silica with a pore size of 80 Å and is available in several particle sizes. ODS1 has a lower ligand density and lower carbon loading, while ODS2 offers a more densely packed, end-capped C18 surface. The series is complemented by short alkyl chains, cyano, phenyl, amino, and silica phases, as well as strong anion- and cation-exchange phases. This allows for the coverage of a wide range of classical HPLC methods using a silica base that is consistent across the product family.
