Osaka-Sodaâ„¢ is manufacturing ultra-shielded Capcell Pak UHPLC & HPLC-Columns based on proprietary silicone polymer coating technology. Previously, the columns belonged to the Shiseidoâ„¢ Company, whose chromatography division was acquired by Osaka Soda in 2017. The technology of Capcell Pak columns combines the advantages of silica and polymer columns and reduces residual silanols which cause peak tailing. Capcell Pak columns are stable in pH range 1-10 and can be used under harsh mobile phases.

With Capcell Core ADME and Capcell PAK ADME, Osaka-Soda offers globally unique phases. These phases have an adamantyl modification. This modification results in high hydrophobicity and surface polarity. As a result, these phases have a different selectivity to other materials. The manufacturer advertises these phases with the phrase: "For separations given up before". If a separation problem cannot be solved, the ADME modification of Osaka Soda could be the solution.

When can the Capcell Core and Capcell PAK ADME be used?

The ADME functionalisation of Osaka soda enables a completely new selectivity. This selectivity cannot be compared with any other column. As a result, difficult separations can be achieved through special interactions. Due to the ordered structure of the adamantyl residues, the surface of the silica gel remains accessible, which leads to polar interactions as well as hydrophobic interactions. This means that even highly polar compounds can be retarded and separated in a 100% aqueous mobile phase.
