The Kromasil 100 C1 HPLC column 50x4.6mm, 5µm, features a very short C1 alkyl modification on 100 Å silica. Due to the low hydrophobicity, the phase provides significantly weaker retention than C8 or C18 phases and can therefore be advantageous for highly hydrophobic analytes or fast elutions. Kromasil 100 C1 is used in reversed-phase chromatography when a mild hydrophobic selectivity is required. Typical applications include method optimisation, fast RP-HPLC, highly hydrophobic substances, peptides and separations where longer alkyl chains cause excessive retention times.
The Kromasil series is based on highly stable, spherical, and fully porous silica particles. The silica matrix combines a high surface area, high pore volume, and a controlled pore structure with a narrow particle size distribution. This supports efficient packing beds, low pressure drops relative to performance, and good column and batch reproducibility. The Kromasil platform offers different pore sizes: 60 Ã… for small organic molecules, 100 Ã… for small molecules and peptides, and 300 Ã… for proteins and larger biomolecules. Appropriate Kromasil pre-column cartridges can be used to protect the analytical packing bed from particles, sample matrix, and hard-to-elute components.
