The Kromasil 300 C8 HPLC column 100x20mm, 10µm, is based on an octyl phase (other designations: RP-8, C8) on 300 Å wide-pore silica. The C8 modification provides moderate hydrophobic retention, while the large pore size facilitates access of larger molecules to the stationary phase. Kromasil 300 C8 is used in reversed-phase chromatography for biomolecules and larger hydrophobic compounds. Typical applications are peptides, proteins, biopharmaceutical purity testing, peptide mapping, hydrophobic fragments and methods where C18 is too strongly retained.
The Kromasil series is based on highly stable, spherical, and fully porous silica particles. The silica matrix combines a high surface area, high pore volume, and a controlled pore structure with a narrow particle size distribution. This supports efficient packing beds, low pressure drops relative to performance, and good column and batch reproducibility. The Kromasil platform offers different pore sizes: 60 Ã… for small organic molecules, 100 Ã… for small molecules and peptides, and 300 Ã… for proteins and larger biomolecules. Appropriate Kromasil pre-column cartridges can be used to protect the analytical packing bed from particles, sample matrix, and hard-to-elute components.
Kromasil is a registered trademark of the manufacturer Nouryon, Bohus, Sweden.
