The Shodex ORpak CRX-853 chiral HPLC column 50x8.0mm, 10µm, is based on a hydrophilic polyhydroxy methacrylate matrix with a bonded L-amino acid derivative. In the presence of Cu(II) ions in the eluents diastereomeric ligand-exchange complexes of differing stability are formed, whereby Shodex ORpak CRX-853 separates the enantiomers of amino acids, hydroxy acids and corresponding derivatives. Typical applications include, among others, lactic and mandelic acid as well as other chiral organic acids; the ready-packed ORpak CRX-G Guard Column is available as a suitable guard column.
ORpak CDBS-453 uses a β-cyclodextrin derivative on porous silica. The chiral cavity of the cyclodextrin distinguishes enantiomers based on size, shape, and the spatial arrangement of functional groups. In addition, hydrogen bonding, dipole forces, and hydrophobic interactions can influence enantioselectivity. The mobile phase must be selected so that inclusion complex formation and additional interactions remain in balance.
