The Kromasil SFC 2EP column 150x30mm, 5µm, is equipped with a 2-ethylpyridine modification. This nitrogen-containing surface significantly alters interactions compared with silica, diol and cyano and can be advantageous particularly for ionisable, basic or acidic compounds. Kromasil SFC 2EP is frequently used as a screening phase in achiral SFC when good peak shapes and ligand-imprinted selectivity are required. Typical applications are pharmaceutical active ingredients, library samples, small molecules, impurities and preparative separations in method scale-up.

The Kromasil SFC series is based on spherical, fully porous Kromasil silica with a pore size of 100 Å. The series is designed for supercritical fluid chromatography and includes the SIL, CN, Diol, 2EP, and XT modifications. This selection allows for SFC screening ranging from unmodified silica through polar diol and cyano phases to 2-ethylpyridine and XT. Thanks to the high mechanical stability of the Kromasil base material, Kromasil SFC can be used for both rapid analytical methods and for scale-up and preparative SFC separations. Matching Kromasil SFC pre-column cartridges protect the packing bed from particles, sample matrix, and heavily retained impurities.
