Monolithic Columns

Unlike other columns,monolithic columns do not consist of individual particles. Instead, they consist of a single rod of highly porous material. This porous material has macropores and mesopores. The macropores allow the mobile phase to flow through the material at low back pressure (pore size >1 µm). The mesopores are narrower and enable high-performance separation (pore size 100-300 Å). Monolithic columns are available as monoliths based on silica and on organic polymers.

Thermo Scientific offers monolithic columns based on organic polymers for various bio-applications. The ProSwift and PepSwift series are available in various modifications and dimensions.
