The ICSep AN-SDA HPLC column (50 × 4.6 mm) is an anion-exchange phase designed for the ion chromatography of beverages and soft-drink-type samples. The ICSep AN-SDA is specifically designed to separate common anions, even in strongly coloured matrices or those containing additives. Of particular relevance is the analysis of fluoride, chloride, nitrite, bromide, nitrate, phosphate and sulphate, as well as low-molecular-weight organic acids in cola and lemonade samples. As caramel colourings and other beverage additives are expected to have a lesser impact on separation, ICSep AN-SDA is suitable for robust routine monitoring in beverage and food analysis.
The ICSep series is based on polystyrene-divinylbenzene polymers. Fully sulfonated PS/DVB materials are used for ion exclusion of organic acids and alcohols. For organic and inorganic ions, functionalized, macroporous PS/DVB resins are used, for example, with quaternary ammonium groups for anion exchange or with sulfonic acid or carboxyl groups for cation exchange. The polymer backbone makes ICSep particularly suitable for aqueous, ionic matrices; appropriate pre-columns protect the main column from particles and matrix contaminants.
ICSep is a registered trademark of the manufacturer Concise Separations, San Jose, USA.
