Ghost Guard LC 30x2.1mm UHPLC-Column

The Ghost-Guard-LC columns 30x2.1mm, from ANALYTE Analytical Support, are mobile-phase purification columns for gradient elution in reverse-phase chromatography. Ghost-Guard-LC, also known as Ghost Guard LC, is integrated into the chromatographic system upstream of the analytical HPLC or UHPLC column and can retain contaminants from eluents, storage vials, tubing, pumps, filters, or the gradient mixer. Unlike conventional analytical HPLC columns, Ghost-Guard-LC is not intended for the actual separation of the sample, but rather for reducing ghost peaks and baseline noise, which can be particularly critical in blind gradients and trace analysis. Ghost-Guard-LC columns are packed with an efficient adsorbent granulate and are suitable for RP-HPLC, UHPLC, and LC-MS methods using gradient elution. Typical applications include method development, troubleshooting, pharmaceutical quality control, environmental analysis, food analysis, and routine procedures in which interfering system peaks complicate data interpretation.

Ghost-Guard-LC columns are not phase-specific pre-column cartridges designed to protect a specific analytical phase. Their unique feature is the adsorbent purification material, which can retain impurities from the mobile phase before they appear as ghost peaks in the chromatogram. As a result, Ghost-Guard-LC columns are particularly well-suited for gradient methods in reverse-phase chromatography, in which the mobile phase acquires increasing elution strength over time and previously enriched impurities can elute as additional peaks. The column is installed online between the pump and the injection system. System peaks not caused by impurities in the mobile phase—such as those resulting from carryover, sample matrix, injector issues, or detector effects—cannot be eliminated by Ghost-Guard-LC.
