The Avantor ACE C18-HL HPLC column 75x21.2mm, 5µm, is based on an octadecylsilyl modification (other designations: ODS, RP-18, C18) with a higher ligand density and greater carbon loading than the traditional C18 phase. The Avantor ACE C18-HL therefore exhibits stronger hydrophobic retention and an increased loading capacity for reversed-phase chromatography. It is particularly useful when handling analyte-rich samples, preparative approaches or methods with higher sample loads. Typical applications include process development, preparative separations, biogenic amines, amino acids, pharmaceutical intermediates and methods where stronger C18 retention is desired.
The Avantor ACE Series is based on high-purity, spherical silica with very low metal contamination and targeted base deactivation. Controlled surface chemistry reduces the activity of free silanol groups, which promotes symmetrical peaks and reproducible retention times, particularly for basic analytes. The portfolio includes classic fully porous 100 Å phases, alternative selectivities, and 300 Å wide-pore materials for larger molecules. Using compatible Avantor ACE guard cartridges protects the silica backbone of the analytical column from matrix components and can extend the column’s service life.
