The Avantor ACE C18-AR HPLC column 100x1.0mm, 2µm, is an octadecylsilyl phase (other designations: ODS, RP-18, C18) with an additional aromatic phenyl functionality at the end of the C18 chain for reversed-phase chromatography. Through this combination the Avantor ACE C18-AR provides, in addition to hydrophobic C18 retention, aromatic and π-π interactions. This yields alternative selectivities compared with classical alkyl phases, particularly for substituted aromatics, isomers and phenolic compounds. Typical applications are pharmaceutical active ingredients and impurities, flavonoids, hormones, sweeteners, barbiturates as well as methods where a stable separation with 100% aqueous mobile phases is required.
The Avantor ACE Series is based on high-purity, spherical silica with very low metal contamination and targeted base deactivation. Controlled surface chemistry reduces the activity of free silanol groups, which promotes symmetrical peaks and reproducible retention times, particularly for basic analytes. The portfolio includes classic fully porous 100 Å phases, alternative selectivities, and 300 Å wide-pore materials for larger molecules. Using compatible Avantor ACE guard cartridges protects the silica backbone of the analytical column from matrix components and can extend the column’s service life.
