The Ascentis Si HPLC column 150x2.1mm, 3µm, contains unmodified, high-purity silica for normal-phase chromatography and adsorptive separation mechanisms. The Ascentis Si is used when polar surface interactions, hydrogen bonding or adsorption effects are decisive for the separation. Typical applications of the Ascentis Si are lipophilic substances, positional isomers, natural products, lipid classes and methods that should not be operated in the classical reversed-phase mode.
The Ascentis series is based on spherical, high-purity silica with a controlled pore structure. Depending on the modification, hydrophobic, polar, aromatic, or normal-phase interactions are emphasized. As a result, Ascentis can be used for both classical reverse-phase methods and more selective method developments. The use of pre-column cartridges or guard columns in the same phase protects the analytical column from particles and highly retained matrix components without significantly altering the selectivity of the method.
Ascentis is a registered trademark of the manufacturer Merck KGaA, Darmstadt, Germany.
