The Supelclean ENVI-18 SPE cartridge is based on a polymerically bonded and endcapped octadecyl phase (other designations: ODS, RP-18, C18) on acid-washed silica. The high ligand density gives Supelclean ENVI-18 a high hydrophobic capacity and greater robustness towards more demanding sample conditions than classical monomeric C18 sorbents. Supelclean ENVI-18 is particularly suitable for enrichment of herbicides, fungicides, pesticides and organic environmental contaminants from water samples.
Supelclean does not refer to a single base matrix, but rather to a comprehensive family of SPE products with different retention mechanisms. Conventional LC phases are primarily based on fully porous silica and include reversed-phase, normal-phase, and ion-exchange modifications. The ENVI products complement acid-washed silica materials, cross-linked polymer adsorbents, and various carbon adsorbents. Alumina, Florisil, activated carbon, and zirconium-based materials expand the selection with distinct adsorption and matrix cleanup properties. Multilayer cartridges combine multiple sorbents in a defined sequence. Conditioning, sample pH, solvents, and elution conditions must therefore always be tailored to the specific Supelclean material and the target analytes.
Supelclean is a brand name of Sigma-Aldrich Co. LLC, St. Louis, USA, an affiliate of Merck KGaA, Darmstadt, Germany. ENVI-Carb and ENVI-WAX are also brand names of Merck KGaA or its affiliates. Florisil is a registered trademark of U.S. Silica Company, Frederick, USA.
