The Inertsil Prep-SIL preparative HPLC column 250x10mm, 10µm, is an unmodified silica phase for normal-phase chromatography and preparative purification. Inertsil Prep-SIL is used when polar surface interactions of the silica matrix are to be specifically utilized for separation, fractionation, or purification. The 10-µm Prep materials are designed for semipreparative and preparative formats; method parameters can be determined using smaller ID formats and subsequently transferred to larger preparative columns. Suitable applications include the purification of organic intermediates, natural products, reaction mixtures, lipophilic compounds, and substance fractions that exhibit better selectivity in normal-phase chromatography than in reverse-phase chromatography.
The Inertsil series is based on a high-purity, spherical silica matrix whose pore structure, particle size distribution, and surface are carefully controlled during production. Low metal contamination and careful surface treatment reduce the activity of free silanol groups. This minimizes undesirable secondary interactions—particularly tailing and adsorption with basic or chelating analytes—and promotes stable retention times. This reproducible silica matrix forms the basis for the various Inertsil modifications and ensures reliable selectivities across the series. Appropriate Inertsil pre-column cartridges should be used to protect the analytical packing bed from particles and the sample matrix and to extend column lifespan.
