The Inertsil Prep-ODS preparative HPLC column 250x50mm, 10µm, is based on an octadecyl modification (also known as ODS, RP-18, C18) for preparative reverse-phase chromatography. Inertsil Prep-ODS is designed for scale-up and purification: semipreparative columns with smaller inner diameters (ID) can be used to determine parameters before the method is transferred to larger preparative IDs. The C18 selectivity provides robust retention of hydrophobic to moderately polar substances and is suitable for active ingredients, intermediates, natural products, small- to medium-sized peptides, and fractions from synthesis or extraction batches. For preparative methods with high sample loading, the appropriate guard column should be selected based on the ID and flow rate of the main column.
The Inertsil series is based on a high-purity, spherical silica matrix whose pore structure, particle size distribution, and surface are carefully controlled during production. Low metal contamination and careful surface treatment reduce the activity of free silanol groups. This minimizes undesirable secondary interactions—particularly tailing and adsorption with basic or chelating analytes—and promotes stable retention times. This reproducible silica matrix forms the basis for the various Inertsil modifications and ensures reliable selectivities across the series. Appropriate Inertsil pre-column cartridges should be used to protect the analytical packing bed from particles and the sample matrix and to extend column lifespan.
