The Inertsil Acrolein C18 HPLC column 250x4.6mm, 3µm, is based on an octadecyl modification (also known as ODS, RP-18, C18) and is optimized for the rapid separation of DNPH-acetone and DNPH-acrolein. Inertsil Acrolein C18 can be used with standard RP conditions such as acetonitrile/water and is therefore suitable for specific methods in acrolein analysis. The comparatively lower C18 carbon loading supports selective retention of the DNPH derivatives and can contribute to clearer separations in this specialized application. Typical applications include the analysis of aldehyde/ketone derivatives, environmental analysis, air and emissions analysis, as well as methods in which acrolein must be selectively separated from co-eluting components.
The Inertsil series is based on a high-purity, spherical silica matrix whose pore structure, particle size distribution, and surface are carefully controlled during production. Low metal contamination and careful surface treatment reduce the activity of free silanol groups. This minimizes undesirable secondary interactions—particularly tailing and adsorption with basic or chelating analytes—and promotes stable retention times. This reproducible silica matrix forms the basis for the various Inertsil modifications and ensures reliable selectivities across the series. Appropriate Inertsil pre-column cartridges should be used to protect the analytical packing bed from particles and the sample matrix and to extend column lifespan.
