The Waters XSelect HSS C18 SB HPLC/UHPLC column 150x3.0mm, 5µm, is based on an octadecylsilyl phase (other designations: ODS, RP-18, C18) on High-Strength-Silica particles and can be used in reversed-phase mode. The SB variant has a lower ligand density and emphasises silanol interactions, whereby basic polar analytes can be more strongly retained. The application range of the Waters XSelect HSS C18 SB includes basic polar active substances, selectivity comparisons, low-pH methods and LC–MS method screening.
XSelect combines two deliberately different particle platforms. CSH uses a BEH hybrid framework with a controlled positive surface charge and is specifically designed to provide good peak shapes and increased loading capacity for basic compounds. HSS is based on high-strength silica and often provides stronger retention as well as different selectivities than BEH or CSH phases. C18, phenyl-hexyl, fluoro-phenyl, T3, PFP, and cyano offer a broad range of method development options; specialized peptide phases extend these concepts to bioanalytical separations.
