The Waters XSelect HSS C18 HPLC-/UHPLC column 20x3.0mm, 3.5µm, is based on an octadecylsilyl phase (other designations: ODS, RP-18, C18) on High-Strength-Silica particles and is used for RP separations. The HSS base provides silica-like retention, high mechanical stability and high efficiency. The Waters XSelect HSS C18 is used, among other things, for general RP analysis, acidic, basic and neutral analytes, method development and QC.
XSelect combines two deliberately different particle platforms. CSH uses a BEH hybrid framework with a controlled positive surface charge and is specifically designed to provide good peak shapes and increased loading capacity for basic compounds. HSS is based on high-strength silica and often provides stronger retention as well as different selectivities than BEH or CSH phases. C18, phenyl-hexyl, fluoro-phenyl, T3, PFP, and cyano offer a broad range of method development options; specialized peptide phases extend these concepts to bioanalytical separations.
