The Waters XBridge BEH C8 HPLC/UHPLC column 20x3.0mm, 2.5µm, is based on an octylsilyl phase (other designations: RP-8, C8) on BEH hybrid particles and is used primarily in reversed-phase chromatography. The C8 phase utilises the stability of the BEH backbone and reduces retention compared with XBridge BEH C18. Compared with C18 phases, the Waters XBridge BEH C8 shows lower hydrophobic retention, allowing very hydrophobic compounds to elute more quickly. Applications of the Waters XBridge BEH C8 include hydrophobic small molecules, accelerated RP methods, high-pH screenings and LC-MS analysis.
XBridge columns use ethylene-bridged hybrid particles in which organic bridges are incorporated into the inorganic backbone. This material architecture expands the usable pH range compared to conventional silica and enables robust methods even in the strongly alkaline range. The product family includes reverse-phase, shield, and phenyl-selective columns, as well as HILIC and amide-phase columns and wide-pore materials for peptides, proteins, glycans, and oligonucleotides. Identical chemistries across different particle sizes facilitate transfer between HPLC, UHPLC, and preparative formats.
