The Waters XBridge BEH Shield RP18 HPLC/UHPLC column 20x4.6mm, 2.5µm, is built on BEH hybrid particles and possesses an embedded polar group in an octadecylsilyl phase (other designations: ODS, RP-18, C18). The Waters XBridge BEH Shield RP18 is intended for use in reversed-phase chromatography. The Shield-RP18 chemistry offers alternative selectivity to alkyl-C18 phases and improves basic peak shapes near neutral pH. Typical applications of the Waters XBridge BEH Shield RP18 include basic active pharmaceutical ingredients, methods with 100% aqueous starting conditions, LC-MS screening and method development.
XBridge columns use ethylene-bridged hybrid particles in which organic bridges are incorporated into the inorganic backbone. This material architecture expands the usable pH range compared to conventional silica and enables robust methods even in the strongly alkaline range. The product family includes reverse-phase, shield, and phenyl-selective columns, as well as HILIC and amide-phase columns and wide-pore materials for peptides, proteins, glycans, and oligonucleotides. Identical chemistries across different particle sizes facilitate transfer between HPLC, UHPLC, and preparative formats.
