The Waters Sep-Pak tC18 SPE cartridge is based on silica-based SPE sorbent and possesses a trifunctional octadecylsilyl phase (other designations: ODS, RP-18, C18). Chromatographically the Waters Sep-Pak tC18 is designed for use in reversed-phase SPE. The trifunctional bonding increases hydrolytic stability compared with classical C18 sorbents. Applications of the Waters Sep-Pak tC18 are aqueous samples, robust RP-SPE, environmental analysis, food samples and routine clean-up.
Sep-Pak includes classic silica-based SPE phases as well as inorganic adsorbents and derivatized specialty cartridges. C18, tC18, C8, CN, NH2, and Diol cover different polarity and selectivity ranges. Silica, alumina, and Florisil operate primarily through adsorption mechanisms, whereas DNPH-Silica chemically derivatizes and subsequently retains carbonyl compounds. The wide selection of cartridge sizes allows sample volume, sorbent quantity, and required capacity to be tailored to the specific workflow.
