The Benson BP-100 Pb HPLC column 300x7.8mm, 9µm, uses a sulphonated PS/DVB matrix in lead form. Benson BP-100 Pb exhibits a different carbohydrate selectivity to calcium-based forms and is frequently used when mono- and disaccharides or sugar alcohols need to be separated with a more differentiated retention profile. Lead mode is particularly relevant in traditional sugar analyses, where water is used as the eluent and refractive index (RI) detection is employed. The Benson BP-100 Pb column is suitable for food, fermentation and raw material analysis.
Benson columns are based on sulfonated styrene-divinylbenzene polymers with various counterions and degrees of cross-linking. The BP-100 series is typically associated with 6% cross-linking, while the BP-700 and BP-800 series represent more highly cross-linked variants designed for different selectivity and robustness requirements. Depending on the counterion, sugars, sugar alcohols, organic acids, or alcoholic byproducts are separated. Calcium, lead, sodium, potassium, and silver forms are primarily used for carbohydrates; H forms are typically used for organic acids, fermentation products, and related ion-exclusion chromatography applications.
Benson is a brand name of the manufacturer Concise Separations, San Jose, USA.
