The Inertsil ODS-SP HPLC column 50x10mm, 5µm, is a specially deactivated octadecyl phase (also known as ODS, RP-18, C18) for reverse-phase chromatography. Inertsil ODS-SP is designed to retain hydrophilic compounds without excessively retarding highly hydrophobic analytes. Due to its comparatively low carbon loading, the phase is suitable for highly aqueous eluents and equilibrates quickly in gradient methods. Typical applications include polar pharmaceutical active ingredients, water-soluble compounds, metabolites, nucleobases, food and environmental analysis, and fast RP-HPLC methods.

The Inertsil series is based on a high-purity, spherical silica matrix whose pore structure, particle size distribution, and surface are carefully controlled during production. Low metal contamination and careful surface treatment reduce the activity of free silanol groups. This minimizes undesirable secondary interactions—particularly tailing and adsorption with basic or chelating analytes—and promotes stable retention times. This reproducible silica matrix forms the basis for the various Inertsil modifications and ensures reliable selectivities across the series. Appropriate Inertsil pre-column cartridges should be used to protect the analytical packing bed from particles and the sample matrix and to extend column lifespan.
