The Inertsil C8-3 HPLC column 150x2.1mm, 2µm, is an octyl phase (also known as RP-8, C8) on high-purity silica. It offers stronger hydrophobic retention than many other C8 phases, but exhibits less retention than typical C18 phases. This makes Inertsil C8-3 suitable for methods requiring C8 selectivity with higher retention. Typical applications include active pharmaceutical ingredient analysis, impurity profiling, moderately polar to hydrophobic compounds, environmental analysis, and method optimization between C8 and C18 selectivity.
The Inertsil series is based on a high-purity, spherical silica matrix whose pore structure, particle size distribution, and surface are carefully controlled during production. Low metal contamination and careful surface treatment reduce the activity of free silanol groups. This minimizes undesirable secondary interactions—particularly tailing and adsorption with basic or chelating analytes—and promotes stable retention times. This reproducible silica matrix forms the basis for the various Inertsil modifications and ensures reliable selectivities across the series. Appropriate Inertsil pre-column cartridges should be used to protect the analytical packing bed from particles and the sample matrix and to extend column lifespan.
