The Inertsil ODS-3 HPLC column 100x2.1mm, 2µm, is a well-established octadecyl phase (also known as ODS, RP-18, C18) for reverse-phase chromatography. It is characterized by comparatively strong hydrophobic retention, high reproducibility, and reliable peak shapes. Due to its long history of use in various methods, Inertsil ODS-3 is frequently used for existing, well-established procedures. Typical applications include pharmaceutical analysis, contract analysis, environmental analysis, food analysis, classical RP-HPLC methods, and methods requiring robust standard C18 selectivity.
The Inertsil series is based on a high-purity, spherical silica matrix whose pore structure, particle size distribution, and surface are carefully controlled during production. Low metal contamination and careful surface treatment reduce the activity of free silanol groups. This minimizes undesirable secondary interactions—particularly tailing and adsorption with basic or chelating analytes—and promotes stable retention times. This reproducible silica matrix forms the basis for the various Inertsil modifications and ensures reliable selectivities across the series. Appropriate Inertsil pre-column cartridges should be used to protect the analytical packing bed from particles and the sample matrix and to extend column lifespan.
