The Inertsil ODS-4 HPLC column 30x2.1mm, 2µm, is based on an octadecyl phase (also known as ODS, RP-18, C18) for reverse-phase chromatography. The phase was developed for high inertness, good peak shapes, and stable performance even with highly aqueous mobile phases. Compared to traditional C18 phases, Inertsil ODS-4 exhibits modern, balanced C18 selectivity and is well-suited for routine qualitative and quantitative analysis. The Inertsil series is based on a high-purity, spherical silica matrix whose pore structure, particle size distribution, and surface are carefully controlled during production. Low metal contamination and careful surface treatment reduce the activity of free silanol groups. This minimizes undesirable secondary interactions—particularly tailing and adsorption with basic or chelating analytes—and promotes stable retention times. This reproducible silica matrix forms the basis for the various Inertsil modifications and ensures reliable selectivities across the series. Appropriate Inertsil pre-column cartridges should be used to protect the analytical packing bed from particles and the sample matrix and to extend column lifespan.
