The Inertsil C8-4 precolumn cartridges 10x4.0mm, 5µm, are used to protect Inertsil C8-4 HPLC columns. The cartridges contain a packing material compatible with the analytical column and protect the main column from particles, matrix components, and highly retained impurities. They are suitable for routine and method development applications in HPLC and LC/MS when longer column life and stable chromatographic performance are desired. The matching holder 5020-08500 serves as the pre-column holder.
The Inertsil series is based on a high-purity, spherical silica matrix whose pore structure, particle size distribution, and surface are carefully controlled during production. Low metal contamination and careful surface treatment reduce the activity of free silanol groups. This minimizes undesirable secondary interactions—particularly tailing and adsorption with basic or chelating analytes—and promotes stable retention times. This reproducible silica matrix forms the basis for the various Inertsil modifications and ensures reliable selectivities across the series. Appropriate Inertsil pre-column cartridges should be used to protect the analytical packing bed from particles and the sample matrix and to extend column lifespan.
