The Inertsil CX HPLC column 50x0.3mm, 5µm, is a silica-based cation-exchange phase with benzenesulfonic acid functionality. Inertsil CX is used in ion-exchange chromatography and is particularly suitable for basic compounds. Its high ion-exchange capacity enables strong retention and selective separations of ionic analytes. Typical applications include basic active ingredients, amino acids, nucleobases, counterion analysis, polar bases, and methods where RP-HPLC does not provide sufficient retention or selectivity.
The Inertsil series is based on a high-purity, spherical silica matrix whose pore structure, particle size distribution, and surface are carefully controlled during production. Low metal contamination and careful surface treatment reduce the activity of free silanol groups. This minimizes undesirable secondary interactions—particularly tailing and adsorption with basic or chelating analytes—and promotes stable retention times. This reproducible silica matrix forms the basis for the various Inertsil modifications and ensures reliable selectivities across the series. Appropriate Inertsil pre-column cartridges should be used to protect the analytical packing bed from particles and the sample matrix and to extend column lifespan.
