HEMA/HEMA-Bio

Hydrophilic and Polar SEC-Columns

MZ-SEC-columns for aqueous or polar eluents are packed with HEMA- or HEMA-Bio-Gel. They are best suited for the characterization and preparative separation of synthetic polymers, oligomers or additives in aqueous or polar solvents.

Typical applications for HEMA-Gel are:

  • polyethylenoxides or -glycols
  • polystyrenesulfonates
  • polyacrylic acids
  • polyacrylamides
  • polysaccharides

HEMA-Gel is a hydroxylmethacrylate copolymer which is highly cross linked with ethylenglycoldimethylacrylate. It is fully compatible both with aqueous and polar eluents.

This enables an easy change of eluents as for example:

water -> methanol -> acetone -> THF -> water

HEMA-Bio-Gel consists of hydrophilic modified HEMA-Gel for the separation of biopolymers like proteins, peptides or nucleic acids. Due to the complete hydrophilic surface modification, any hydrophobic interactions are suppressed. This enables separations based on pure volumetric exclusion. HEMA-Bio-Gel is only compatible with fully aqueous eluents.

HEMA- and HEMA-Bio-Gel exhibit the following features:

  • high porosity gives excellent capacity
  • high mechanical stability due to optimized cross linking
  • high chemical resistibility: pH 2-12
  • excellent resistance against microbes
  • low backpressure as a result of tight classing
